Gauteng Health assures stability, as more Typhoid cases are reported
Gauteng Department of Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu has called on Gauteng residents to be more watchful following more cases of Typhoid.
The department has confirmed that two new additional cases of Typhoid have been reported in the province. These were confirmed yesterday at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in the Tshwane district.
"Let us continue to wash our hands and food at all times, our Outbreak Response Team will be out in full force for the next few weeks, we are closely monitoring the situation which is currently under control," said MEC Qedani Mahlangu.
Yesterday a 38-year-old Zimbabwean female patient, from Centurion, who presented at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital on Thursday, 21 January 2016 with four days history of fever was found to have typhoid. She is currently on antibiotics and appears to be fairly stable.
Furthermore, another 27-year-old Zimbabwean female patient, who has been staying in the country since 2012 presented to the Dr George Mukhari Hospital on Wednesday, 20 January 2016. Blood tests were also carried out on the same day of her admission. She was yesterday confirmed to be Typhoid positive and she is also on antibiotics.
However, two children currently at the Edenvale District Hospital have since improved drastically, with temperature readings and other vitals remaining essentially normal.
The 16-year-old currently at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital is also doing remarkably well and is said to be in a quite stable condition.
