MEC Vusi Shongwe sends condolences to family of late Minister Collins Chabane and other road accident victims

Four people perish after their vehicle overturned

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe is sending condolences to the families of four people who died on Saturday, 14 March 2015 at about 16h30 after the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and overturned.

The crash occurred on the R37 Road between Lydenburg and Mbombela. The deceased include the driver, two adult passengers and a child who died later in hospital. Only one passenger who is a child survived with minor injuries.

This crash comes at a time when the nation is also mourning the death of Minister Collins Chabane and his two bodyguards who died on a crash over the weekend. MEC Shongwe also sends condolences to the Minister’s family and the families of the two police officers.

Shongwe says road crashes leave families and the nation devastated because innocent lives are lost. He calls on motorists to be cautious and adhere to the rules of the road when driving.

“Motorists who fail to comply with the rules of the road must face the law so that we teach other motorists that we take road safety serious,” says Shongwe.
