First Lady Dr Tshepo Motsepe delivers opening address at the launch of the South African Child Gauge 2020, 18 Feb

First Lady Dr Tshepo Motsepe will on Thursday, 18 February 2021, deliver the opening address at the launch of the South African Child Gauge 2020, at a virtual event hosted by the Children’s Institute, University of Cape Town.

The Child Gauge is a publication published annually by the Children's Institute. It provides a review of the status of children in South Africa and is seen by both government and civil society as a valuable briefing and advocacy resource.

The Child Gauge aims to make academic research accessible to key decision makers in South African society and is widely distributed to government, civil society, the media and donor community.

This 15th issue of the Child Gauge focuses attention on children’s nutrition and food security.

The 2020 issue collates and presents the latest evidence on food security and nutrition of children in South Africa; reflects on current and emerging challenges; showcases examples of promising practice, and informs a policy and research agenda that will accelerate efforts to improve the food security and nutrition for child nutrition.

Dr Motsepe will undertake this engagement in her capacity as Patron of the South African Civil Society for Women’s, Adolescents’ and Children’s Health (SACSoWACH).

The launch will be attended by various stakeholders from civil society and institutions of higher learning in South Africa, through whose partnership and support the South African Child Gauge is able to achieve its work.
