MEC Debbie Schäfer engages with parents at Golden Acre Mall, 14 Feb

Early Enrolment Campaign: Minister Schäfer to encourage parents to apply for admission for 2020 on time

With school enrolments opening on Friday 15th February 2019, tomorrow (Thursday) Western Cape MEC for Education Debbie Schäfer will be at the Golden Acre Mall engaging with parents to outline the importance of early enrolment as well as to urge parents to enrol their children as soon as possible and before the admissions deadline.

Every year - the main hindrance to placing children in schools is late enrolment and the onus is in fact on the parents to ensure that their child is enrolled in schools timeously.

Therefore, in order to create awareness around the importance of early enrolment, the WCED has released a number of social media, radio and newspaper ad campaigns, as well as placed billboards and banners in malls across the province, and will be conducting targeted pamphlet drops in areas where we typically find late enrolments.

Minister Schäfer will on Thursday be handing out pamphlets and engaging with parents at Golden Acre Mall and will discuss various aspects of this campaign that is aimed at parents who would typically leave enrolments to the last minute. The Minister will also provide information of the new online application website that the WCED will be piloting in specific schools.

Date: Thursday 14th February 2019
Time: 11h30
Venue: Golden Acre Shopping Mall, Adderley Street  (meet outside Shoprite entrance on Adderley Street)

All media are invited to attend.

There will be opportunities for photographs and interviews.
