The Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Makhotso Sotyu will on 9 April 2020 handover food vouchers to the waste pickers in Sasolburg.
The handover of the food vouchers to waste pickers is a partnership between government and PETCO. This support is aimed at assisting waste pickers during this national lockdown as part of the interim relief efforts. The waste pickers are unable to work during the lockdown period since they are not included on the essential services list.
The Deputy Minister will be joined by the South African Waste Pickers Association, Metsimaholo Local Municipality and Fezile Dabi District Municipality during the handover ceremony.
