Deputy Minister Makhotso Sotyu embarks on a District Development Model visit in the Free State, 29 to 30 Apr

Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment to embark on a District Development Model visit in the Free State

The Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Makhotso Sotyu will undertake a District Development Model visit in the Free State province on the 29th and 30th of April 2021.

The visit will commence on Thursday 29 April with a walk-about at the Bethulie Dam to gain insight on the infrastructure development needs of the facility. The facility has great potential to attract fishermen and water sports fanatics and could contribute to inclusive growth and the creation of much-needed jobs for local communities.

In addition, the Deputy Minister will engage with the leadership of the Xhariep District Municipality and all local municipalities under the district on matters related to integrated waste management approaches. The objective is to improve waste collection services and eradicate all illegal dumpsites.

Deputy Minister Sotyu will conclude her visit to the Free State with an unveiling of a R12 million worth Environmental Education Center in Phuthaditjhaba on Friday 30 April. The centre was constructed by the Department using labour-intensive methods as per the requirements of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). This project created a total of 185 work opportunities for local people.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister, together with the leadership of Thabo Mofutsanyane District Municipality and Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality will unveil a brand new yellow fleet and hand over a set of skip bins that will be used to improve waste management services in the local municipality.
