MEC Lena Miga participates in Habitat Day event at Potchefstroom, 20 Oct

COGHSTA MEC NL Miga, will support Habitat Day event in Potchefstroom, introduce the Tswaing administration team and hand over title deeds to residents of extension 4 in Alabama Klerksdorp

MEC for Corporate Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Lena Miga will on Wednesday 20 October 2021 observe the proceedings of the Urban October month campaign as a build-up towards the world cities day on 31st October. The event is hosted by the national Department of Human Settlements in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District in Potchefstroom.

Annually during the month of October, the department participates in a month-long programme of activities, events and discussions on Urban sustainability. Urban October is an opportunity for key stakeholders to participate and have conversations about the challenges and opportunities created by the fast rate of change in our cities and towns.

The session seeks also to engage in the new building technology done by AVSA Steel Company led by a woman in Potchefstroom. The company has already donated several houses build in alternative technology and will this year donate another one to a destitute family in Klerksdorp. The partnership between the Department and AVSA will further host a media build and Journalism Academy on Alternative building technology.

The MEC will then proceed to Delareyville to introduce a team dedicated to providing governance at the  Tswaing Municipality until a new Council takes office after elections. The municipality was dissolved after the decision taken by the North West Provincial Executive on the 22nd September 2021, to invoke Section 139(1)(c) of the Constitution which was also supported by the National Cooperative Governance Minister.

The MEC will further on the same day, hand over title deeds to households in Extension 4 in Alabama Klerksdorp   The beneficiaries represent thousands of people who will now be able to have the security of tenure by owning houses they stayed in for generations.  Those who will receive the title deeds also include beneficiaries of the state housing scheme, or who received low-cost houses.
