Environmental Affairs hosts Air Quality Governance Lekgotla in Mpumalanga, 3 to 5 Oct

The Department of Environmental Affairs host the 11th Annual Air Quality Governance Lekgotla from 3 to 5 October 2016 at the Emnotweni Arena and Conference Centre Mbombela, Mpumalanga.

The two day Lekgotla will bring together government officials from national, provincial and local level, working in the area of air quality management. The third day is a multi-stakeholder workshop combining all stakeholders and government officials.

This year’s Lekgotla will primarily focus on identifying and prioritising aspects of air quality management towards the improvement of air quality management in the country by 2020. Delegates will deliberate on issues around the implementation of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act (39) of 2004 (AQA).

Government has been implementing programmes and tools as per the 2012 National Framework to achieve the quality of air that is not harmful to the health and wellbeing of the people. The event provides an opportunity for intergovernmental coordination and collaboration where government officials share experiences and opportunities, debate issues and develop ways and means of addressing air quality management challenges.

The Air Quality Governance Lekgotla will be followed by the Multi-Stakeholder Workshop on 5 October 2016, hosted in collaboration with the National Association for Clean Air (NACA) at which various air quality management stakeholders discuss issues of common interest.
