Acting Premier Willies Mchunu public engagement: “Our journey of building a stronger province is continuing.”

Africa Day celebration

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Premier Willies Mchunu will give a keynote address during Africa Day celebration scheduled to take place tomorrow, 25th May 2016 at KwaDukuza Sports and Recreation Grounds. The wreath laying ceremony will take place at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Grave at 8h30.

Mchunu remarked: “Hosting this event in KwaDukuza is a fitting tribute to Inkosi Mvumbi Luthuli – the founding father of our democracy and the first ever African Recipient of Nobel Peace Prize.

Chief Albert Luthuli, the President of the African National Congress, had the following to say about Africa’s rebirth in 1961: ‘Let me invite Africa to cast her eyes beyond the past and, to some extent, the present with their woes and tribulations, trials and failures and some success, and see herself as an emerging continent bursting to freedom through the shelf of centuries of serfdom.’

Special sitting to elect the Premier

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Premier Willies Mchunu will attend a special sitting to elect the Premier in the provincial legislature on the 25th May at 14h00.

Mchunu remarked: “This house must be characterised by robust debate with matters affecting the people of this province central to all discussions as opposed to elevating narrow political issues to the top of the agenda.”

“We must unite our people behind a common goal of creating a winning nation capable of dealing with any socio-economic challenge. As leaders of society, we must be exemplary in how we handle ourselves and how we discharge our responsibilities.”

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the events. Media houses are requested to RSVP with Regi Khumalo on 079 751 6108.
