The Minister of Agriculture, Land reform and Rural Development Ms Thoko Didiza, MP would like to express her heartfelt condolences on passing of two great minds in the Agricultural sector.

Minister Thoko Didiza appoints Ondersterpoort Biological Products Interim Board

The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Ms Thoko Didiza, MP has appointed the Interim Board of the Onderstepoort Biological Products (OBP) Board of Directors following the expiry of the term of office of the current board on 31 July 2020.

The Minister has appointed the interim board in terms of clause 7.1.2 the Memorandum of Incorporation of the OBP, read together with section 66(4)(a)(i) of the Companies Act, 71 of 2008. The board shall consist of seven (7) members as required by the Onderstepoort Biological Products (OBP) Act 19 of 1999.

Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Minister Thoko Didiza has learnt with shock the triple murder on a farm in Magogong, outside Hartwater in the Northern Cape.

The three victims were allegedly attacked by three suspects.

The Minister applauds the swift response by the South African Police Service who arrested the three suspects that allegedly robbed, kidnapped and murdered the victims.

Minister Didiza has been inundated with calls from concerned citizens verifying whether she is the one they have been engaging with on these social media platforms.

Agriculture, Rural Development and Land Reform update on African Swine Fever

Following the first ever case of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the Eastern Cape, the veterinary services have been conducting extensive epidemiological investigations and visiting areas to establish the extend of the outbreak. As of 22 May 23 villages were investigated, with 16 reporting that there have been pig deaths and seven reported no abnormal pig deaths. Further investigations are ongoing and more villages will be visited. Samples have been sent to the laboratory and thus far, two villages have tested positive with other test results still awaited.

Minister Thoko Didiza: Outcome of the Coronavirus Covid-19 Agricultural Disaster Fund application process

The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Ms Thoko Didiza announced today the outcome of the Covid-19 Agricultural Disaster Fund application process. The fund intervention of R1,2 billion aims to address the effects of the Coronavirus and ensure sustainable food production post the pandemic. 

The smallholder and communal farmers’ application process opened on 8 April and closed on 22 April 2020 and 33 000 manual application forms were distributed through our provincial and district offices, commodity and civil society organisations.

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development announces the opening of Deeds Offices across the country

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development would like to announce the opening of deeds offices across the country on 13 May 2020.

All services will be available and all lodgements will be accepted. The members of the public and clerks will however not be allowed in the buildings. Only conveyancers will be allowed to enter the buildings and in big offices, however, their consultations will be controlled through appointments.

Deeds registration has been identified an essential service, according to COVID-19 level 4 lockdown regulations, as of 01 May 2020.
