Premier Alan Winde update on Coronavirus COVID-19 on 3 September

As at 1pm on 3 September 2021, the Western Cape had 29 178 active COVID-19 infections, with a total number 499 354 COVID-19 cases to date and 451 574 recoveries. 

By 5pm on 2 September 2021, the Western Cape Government had administered a cumulative total of 2 139 886 vaccines to healthcare workers, staff in the education sector and those within eligible age brackets.

The current 7-day moving average is 77 deaths per day.

Premier Winde calls on residents to be safe over the weekend

We have now left the peak of the third wave, with new infections continuing to decrease sharply and active cases having now dipped below 30 000.

While this is welcomed, we must continue to be vigilant, particularly as we approach the weekend.

Let’s continue to wash and sanitise our hands regularly, wear our masks correctly, maintain a safe social distance from others and avoid large crowds.

It is also important that we protect ourselves and those around us by making use of our vaccine opportunity.

By continuing to practice these important measures, we will remain on-track to exit the third wave.
