Government to engage Mamelodi residents on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide

Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Thembi Siweya, will lead a high ranking government delegation in conducting a frontline service delivery monitoring at the Mamelodi Thuthuzela Care Centre and host a Women empowerment dialogue in Mamelodi under the theme “Women’s Economic Justice for a non-violent and non-sexist South Africa”.

The theme is a call for the economic empowerment of women as one of the mitigating factors against gender-based violence and femicide.

Gender-based violence has been described by President Ramaphosa as a “pandemic” as it continues to cripple our society, depriving women and children of their rights.

During the visit and dialogue, the Deputy Minister will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Health, Joe Phaahla, Deputy Minister of Police, Cassel Mathale and Gauteng MEC of Community Safety, Nonhlanhla Faith Mazibuko.
