Bursaries

As part of the department’s response in addressing and closing the critical skills gap and implementing both the National Skills Development Strategy and Human Development Strategy, the department awards bursaries to South African youth studying in recognised tertiary institutions.

Full-time bursaries are advertised annually on national newspapers and internet (the advert will be on the newspapers, DFFE website and social media).

Internship Programme

The purpose of the internship programme is to provide a platform for our unemployed graduates to acquire workplace experience for a period of 24 months.

Internship programme is implemented and to date 231 employed, with a minimum stipend for the intern is R6,175.00.

The Internship Programme includes the following categories of interns:

  • Corporate Management Services
  • Chemicals and Waste Management
  • Environmental Programmes
  • Fisheries Management
  • Forestry Management
  • Ministry and Office of the Director-General (ODG) support
  • Oceans and Coasts
  • Regulatory Compliance and Sector Monitoring

  • Marine transport and manufacturing
  • Aquaculture
  • Offshore oil and gas exploration
  • Marine protection services and ocean governance
  • Small harbours (fishing)
  • Coastal tourism
