Youth Development Agency sends condolences to Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela family

Statement of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) on the passing of Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) has received with great sadness the news of the passing of the Mother of the Nation, Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

To the majority of young people across South Africa and the world, Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela represented resilience at the face of brutality by the apartheid regime. It is her courage and defiance to an unjust system that majority of young people stood up and fought for democracy and freedom.

According to the Executive Chairperson of the NYDA, Sifiso Mtsweni “Mama Winnie-Mandela has inspired a girl child to overcome adversity. Her defiant nature and commitment to the education of an African-child is commendable and worth celebrating. The apartheid system failed to break her. We owe our liberation to her”.

The Executive Chairperson of the NYDA will today, 03 April 2018 at 13h00 visit the family home to officially send our condolences on the untimely passing of Mama Winnie –Madikizela Mandela.
“Mama Winnie-Madikizela Mandela understood that youth unemployment is a ticking time-bomb. Her immense contribution to the struggle for liberation and freedom of South Africa will continue to be a driving force towards economic empowerment and ultimate emancipation of all young people” said Mtsweni.
