Youth Development Agency on registration for matric rewrite programme

Last chance to register for NYDA free matric rewrite programme

Having extended the deadline for applications to the NSC second Chance Programme, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) is making a final call to young people who wish to improve their matric results or repeat failed subjects and qualify to rewrite the exams in November 2015, to use these last few days to send in their applications.

In February the NYDA announced its plans to provide free tuition to learners who had not done well in in the 2012, 2013 or 2014 matric exams through its National Senior Certificate 2nd Chance Programme (NSC 2nd Chance).

The final deadline for applications is 20 March 2015.

Sinazo Sihlwayi is a beneficiary of this programme. The 21-year-old Eastern Cape student is now studying Human Resource Management at the Ekurhuleni West Campus. Sinazo came to Gauteng in 2014 with the hopes of finding a college that would accept her despite her poor results from the 2013 exams. When that did not work out she started looking for a job in the city however that move also did not produced any results.

Fearing a life of idling, like many that she’d seen in the township she had now made her home, where she now lives with her sister, Sinazo decided to enrol in the NYDA 2nd Chance Matric Rewrite programme and improve her marks. Through the Braamfontein based Star School Centre, an NYDA service provider, Sinazo managed to upgrade her results going from level 2 in 2013 to level 4 in the 2014 exams which meant she now stood a better chance of being accepted at college.

For the 2015 academic year the NYDA have made 30 examination centres available for leaners in all nine provinces.  Young people that are interested in enrolling in the programme need to do so via NYDA branches or Local Youth Offices (located within municipalities). Applications have to be accompanied by a certified copy of one’s ID, last statement of results as well as the exam number (if previously registered).
