An unknown body of a thirty something Indian female discovered at Addington Hospital

At Addington hospital, in Durban, a body of an Indian female in her early thirty’s was discovered by security personnel at the basement of the hospital last Thursday.

"At this stage we know that she was not our in-patient and have taken her body to the Magwaza Maphalala (Gale) Street mortuary where the police and our forensic team would investigate the cause of her death,” said MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo during his visit to the hospital to get firsthand information on the discovery.

A body, believed to have been in the basement of the hospital building, of a young ‘Indian’ female was discovered by security personnel at the basement of the hospital. It is not known how she ended at the basement, her identity nor her reason for being at the hospital however investigations are underway. The female was dressed in a green summer dress and a cream/khaki In-wearTM jacket. The South African Police Service, Point Station, have opened an inquest docket to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her death.

“The discovery of the body at such a place is cause for concern. We truly want light shed on a number of questions. Such as; why was she at the hospital basement?” said MEC Dhlomo at Addington Hospital. “We just can’t understand how she ended up at the basement having excluded her as one of our in-patients. We hope relatives would come forward sooner so that she may have a decent and dignified burial,” says MEC Dhlomo.

The department wishes to call on relatives who are missing a loved one to visit the Magwaza Maphala (Gale) street mortuary for identification.
