The number of learners we have lost recently due to road accidents is alarmingly high. As a department we have decided to take drastic actions to circumvent these tragic occurrences. We have decided to suspend all inter-school trips till the end of the year.
I have asked the Head of Department to issue a circular to this effect, first thing tomorrow morning. Those who have a very important reason to transport learners must seek permission from the Head of Department.
Much as matric dance events are allowed, in view of recent incidents, we ask all schools to ensure that these end of the year events are conducted within school premises – this means no form of school trips should take place during these functions.
We therefore ask school all principals and School Governing Bodies to assist us in ensuring that this important message is conveyed to everyone.
