Statement from the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) MEC for Education Senzo Mchunu

As a Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal, we would like to wish all our learners a very happy winter recess. In studies, as in life, taking a break is very necessary for rejuvenation and renewal.

Be that as it may, taking a break must not mean we take our eyes off the ball. On the 22nd of June, there will be only 122 days left before the 22nd of October, where as a province we will write the first Grade 12 paper for 2012. This means there is no time left. It means even though we will be enjoying our holidays, our books must be our priority and our close companion.

We therefore urge especially Grade 12 learners in the province to attend winter classes that we have planned as a province, which will commence on the 2nd of July throughout the province. Through these winter classes, as a province we are giving you our learners an opportunity to excel and none of you must miss this opportunity.

We also want to ask parents/caregivers to assist learners and release all of them to attend these winter classes. We also want to thank all educators for their dedication, especially those who will be assisting learners during winter classes.

As a province of KwaZulu-Natal our goal is to be the best when it comes to Grade 12 results and working together we can achieve this goal.

Happy winter holidays!
