North West Legislature Speaker commends Provincial Health Department on plans to combat spread of COVID-19 Virus in the Province

The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Sussana Dantjie has commended the provincial MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha for being hands on in dealing with combating the spread of the virus.

"The plans that the department has in combating the virus makes me comfortable that we are ready as a province to fight this epidemic. The visibility of  MEC Sambatha is also commendable in all efforts to combat, educate and sensitize on our communities on the virus," she said. Speaker Dantjie further acknowledged the donation of sanitizers the Department of Health donated to the Legislature.

The Legislature will strengthen its working relations with the Department of Health in visiting a number of clinics and health centres targeting mostly rural areas in the Province to educate and create awareness.

Following the pronouncements by President Cyril Ramaphosa on measures to combat COVID -19 epidemic, the Legislature has taken the following measures;

  • All outreach programmes have been suspended;
  • No mobilisation of the public will be done for House Sittings
  • Official travel outside the province for Members/Staff has been suspended, only essential travel will be approved by the Speaker/Accounting Officer.
  • The Accounting Officer has been instructed to develop a plan to manage staff attendance such that it minimises close contacts.
  • Department of Health will also provide advocacy and educational material.
     

Members of the public are also requested to avoid any form of gathering of 100 or more people and also to adhere to the preventative measures as pronounced by the President.
