South African Social Security Agency urges grant beneficiaries to appoint trustworthy procurators

Old age and disability grant beneficiaries must appoint trustworthy procurators

South African Social Security Agency would like to warn Old Age and disability grant beneficiaries to appoint trustworthy procurators to withdraw their social grants on their behalf at ATM’s, SAPO offices or merchants .This will prevent withdrawal of their grants without their knowledge and approval.

The Agency has discovered that old age and disability grant beneficiaries are making a huge mistake of disclosing their pin codes to any of their relatives to assist them to collect social grants. Revealing a pin code to an untrustworthy person could allow that person to withdraw the social grant payment and cause undue hardship.

South African Social Security Agency would like to advise beneficiaries to protect and safeguard their pin codes by: memorising pin, do not write it on your card, do not give your PIN number to anyone over the phone, when making a purchase never let a store clerk enter your PIN number for you, remember no one needs to know your PIN number but you and do not ask assistance from strangers at the ATM’s to withdraw money.

SASSA is encouraging beneficiaries to report this act at the nearest police station. This will protect them from criminal activities.
