Six people killed on KwaZulu-Natal roads this weekend

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu condemns the loss of lives on the roads due to human error. Six people lost their lives, eleven were critically injured, twenty nine sustained minor injuries and thirty three were treated for shock over the weekend.

All the above mentioned accidents occurred in different corners of the province. The first was in Ntabamhlophe area which preliminary reports revealed it was due to a head on collision. Another accident occurred in Boshoff Street in Pietermaritzburg where a motor vehicle collided with a pedestrian.

In a separate accident in Wartburg near Hlambamasoka a heavy motor vehicle collided with a light motor vehicle. On R56 Richmond road near Green Pasture farm one light motor vehicle lost control around a bend, colliding head on with a minibus resulting in two lives being lost and two people being critically injured. In a separate accident at Park Rynie a driver of a heavy motor vehicle lost control and the vehicle overturned.

“It is always a sad moment when people lose their lives, however we as the Department of Transport would like to urge all road users to be more vigilant on the road. I would like to convey my heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in these tragic accidents,” said Mchunu.
