Service delivery Imbizo - Nongoma

Residents of the Zululand District today had an opportunity to interact with government when KwaZulu-Natal Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize and several MECs spread out across the district to monitor the progress of service delivery.

Service delivery was even more apparent than to Mzwakhe Mazibuko of Nkojeni area – between Ulundi and Nongoma – where Dr Mkhize made his first stop to officially hand over a house.

The new home was part of a special intervention by government, where Mazibuko, who is blind, pleaded his case to Health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo who was in KwaNondiya to open a clinic.

The matter was then dealt with by the Human Settlement department.

Dr Mkhize and the MECs are in the District as part of the Premier's Imbizo, which was preceded by a stakeholder panel discussion, where the community got an opportunity to ask any service delivery related question. The discussion was broadcast live to community radio stations.

Dr Mkhize and the MECs were each deployed to monitor work done by 11 War Rooms in the District.

Dr Mkhize visited the Ward 15 War Room, where he observed that a lot of work has been done to assist residents in the area.

The provincial leadership also spoke to learners at Falaza High School, where Dr Mkhize said it was not acceptable that the school has a high pupil pregnancy rate, with 25 being reported so far this year.

He said it was up to all learners to look after one another, and make sure that they keep out of trouble.

He handed out a number of gifts to learners including a total of 10 bicycles for learners who stay far from the school, shoes, and a six months' supply of sanitary towels.

The Imbizo was also attended by Zulu monarch King Goodwill Zwelithini. Dr Mkhize thanked Isilo for his leadership and dedication to community development.

Dr Mkhize also encouraged all communities to get actively involved in Operation Sukuma Sakhe through War Rooms that have been established.
