Road accidents keep KZN Emergency Medical Services busy

Paramedics from the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) have had their hands full this weekend, attending to numerous road accidents.

Earlier this morning emergency services responded to a motor vehicle accident on the N2 near Park Rynie, on the KZN South Coast. A motor vehicle had overturned, leaving four people injured - one of them critically. Paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and a private ambulance service worked together to treat these patients. They were then transported to GJ Crookes hospital under the constant care of the paramedics, before being handed over to the hospital’s medical staff. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the police.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident yesterday, a KZN Emergency Medical Services team attended to a fatal accident on the R56, between Ixopo and Richmond just after 17h00. When the paramedics arrived on scene they found that two occupants of an overturned minibus taxi had succumbed to their injuries and died. Five other people, three of whom were critically injured, required urgent medical intervention.

The paramedics administered the required medical care before transporting the patients to Christ the King hospital in Ixopo, for ongoing medical care. Events preceding the accident are being investigated by the South African Police Services.
