The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu has acknowledged the exceptional work by the KwaZulu-Natal traffic officers, as only one life was lost on KwaZulu-Natal roads this weekend and seven people were critically injured.
On the N3 South Bound Ashburton, one heavy motor vehicle and one light motor vehicle were involved in a rear ended collision, the driver was entrapped and died soon after; the accident was caused by the light motor vehicle that went underneath the heavy motor vehicle.
In a separate accident on R66 between Enkwalini and Melmoth road near Zakhele
Store, a Condor failed to negotiate a bend and collided head-on with a Corsa that was heavy laden with 11 passengers. Five people were critically injured and taken to Kwa-Magwaza Hospital.
All road users are urged to be more cautious on the roads, as bad weather conditions and poor visibility continues. Roads are wet and slippery, motorists are advised to be more vigilant, reduce speed, keep head lights on and keep the safe following distance.
