KwaZulu-Natal has experienced a decline in road crashes in the past few days. There has been an accident reported however no loss of life was recorded earlier yesterday, 26 November 2009 on P35 near Dannhauser a minibus carrying passengers lost control and overturned leaving four people seriously injured and ten escaping with minor injuries.
It is alleged that the driver of the minibus taxi was distracted by a heavy motor vehicle that failed to stop at an intersection causing him to lose control of his vehicle as he tried to avoid an accident. The injured were taken to Dundee Provincial Hospital to receive medical attention. Also last night, on the N2 near uMzinto, a foreign driver was caught driving at 201 kilometres per hour. He was detained at Scottburgh South African Police Service (SAPS) with bail set at R2000 and he is expected to appear in court today.
On Monday, 23 November 2009 at the Tweedie area on the N3, a grey Corsa lost control and overturned leaving three people critically injured, one seriously injured and two with minor injuries. The three were taken to Greys Hospital whilst the rest were taken to Northdale Hospital to receive medical attention.
On Wednesday 25 November 2009 on the N3 near Ndezi Bridge the recovery of a truck that lost control and overturned on Tuesday progressed. Traffic was diverted to the R103 and back to the N3 at Nottingham Road. The road was closed for approximately four hours.
“I urge all motorists to drive cautiously, switch their head-lights on and keep a safe following distance. Observing the rules of the road should be a way of life,” said Mchunu.
