Reassuring Umvoti communities about service delivery

Service delivery is now on track in the uMvoti Local Municipality since the KZN provincial government intervened in this municipality earlier this year.

Cogta MEC Nomusa Dube, on Friday, 5 October held an Imbizo with the community, to inform them of the progress that has been made since the provincial governments intervention in their municipality, reassuring Umvoti communities about service delivery

During the Imbizo Dube explained to the community the contributing factors that lead to governments intervention. In fighting amongst councillors according to Dube, compromised the council’s ability to fulfill its constitutional mandate of service delivery to its community. The adoption of the budget have been severely delayed due to the infighting and this has hampered the municipalities ability to deliver.

In the interest of the affected residents, the KZN provincial government placed this municipality under administration in terms of Section 139 (b) of the Constitution earlier this year.

During the visit, MEC Dube, together with her counterparts from the Departments of Human Settlements MEC Ravi Pillay officially opened a series of multimillion rand projects aimed at uplifting the community. These include a TB Ward in the Greytown Hospital together with an Expanded Water Works project which has ensured that the city of Greytown and the surrounding areas have a constant supply of water.
