Premier of KwaZulu-Natal @SihleZikalala has welcomed the decision by President Cyril Ramaphosa to grant late Deputy Speaker of the KZN Legislature Mluleki Ndobe an official provincial funeral, category two.
This move is in line with the policy governing official funerals.
President Ramaphosa’s decision follows a request by Premier Zikalala on behalf of the Provincial Executive Council for the former former Mayor of Harry Gwala District Municipality and Deputy Speaker of the Legislature to be honoured for his life-long service to the people of KwaZulu Natal and the country.
“We are very pleased to welcome the decision of the President to honour Deputy Speaker Ndobe in this manner as he passed away while in office having served the community and people of South Africa virtually all his life. This is indeed a fitting tribute to this gentle giant, humble servant and liberation activist of our people.
The granting of the official provincial funeral is a recognition by the President of Deputy Speaker Ndobe’s major sacrifice and selfless dedication to the people of our province. It also gives us the opportunity for the last time to honour our dear brother, colleague and comrade as we lay him to rest this weekend,” said Premier Zikalala.
Deputy Speaker Ndobe will be laid to rest on Saturday in Umzimkhulu.
Tomorrow the Speaker of the Legislature will give the public all the details and logistics regarding the final send-off of Deputy Speaker Ndobe.
