Premier Sihle Zikalala sends condolences to Mlangeni family

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala has on behalf of the Provincial Government and the people of the province expressed sadness at the passing of ANC stalwart Andrew Mlangeni.

The ANC veteran and the last remaining Rivonia Trialist, passed away in hospital on Tuesday night after a short illness.

The anti-apartheid activist served more than 20 years on Robben Island after he along with Nelson Mandela and other ANC stalwarts were sentenced to life imprisonment on Robben Island after the Rivonia Trial in 1964.

Premier Zikalala has expressed condolences to the Mlangeni family, friends and relatives on the passing of this gallant struggle hero who dedicated his life to the emancipation of the oppressed majority in this country.

"The passing of Comrade Mlangeni has left a huge void in the country. He was the last remaining Rivonia Trialist who was a fountain of knowledge for many comrades. His passing is indeed the end of an era in our glorious movement," said Zikalala.

"On behalf of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government and the people of this province we would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of Isithwalandwe Seaparankwe. He has made his mark and during his twilight years he remained a very a critical voice in the political discourse of our country.

"We have no doubt that he has happily joined ANC family members such as Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, Oliver Tambo, Walter Sisulu, Mama Winnie Mandela, Adelaide Tambo and many other distinguished ANC leaders who have departed these shores," said Zikalala.
