KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu welcomes the awarding of IDZ Status to Dube Trade Port by President Jacob Zuma

KwaZulu-Natal Province Premier Senzo Mchunu has described the launch of the Dube Trade Development Zone as a fitting tribute to the first President of the ruling party the African National Congress – Dr John Langalibalele Dube. He was speaking today in an event attended by the President of the Republic Jacob Zuma and Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Rob Davies.

I recall that on the 8th March 2012, the President launched the Dube Trade Port. We are most pleased with developments thus far and look forward with great anticipation to the continued growth and development of Dube TradePort Industrial Development Zone. Many businesses look set to locate here thereby maximising the competitive advantages offered which is speed, agility and connectivity of business.”

“Having already secured over R900 million in private sector investment, this is, quite clearly, a business environment which will further attract new investors to our region, ensuring that KwaZulu-Natal becomes an ever more potent part of the global export, manufacturing and agro-processing platform.”

“The developments that have been taking place at the Dube Trade Port and Agro-Zone since the launch in 2012 would not have been possible without the better co-ordination, integration and alignment between various spheres of government.”

“Mr President, as the KZN Government we are undertaking to establish the Premier’s Infrastructure Commission in order to strengthen this co-ordination to ensure that we drive the infrastructure revolution which you are spearheading across the country through the Presidential Infrastructure Commission which you are the Chair.”

“Dube Trade Port is our province's foremost development and is one, which, perhaps, best evidences the National Government's commitment to infrastructural development on a massive scale around South Africa. Indeed, in the last two years we have been privileged to have witnessed many initiatives which have truly empowered our Province, KwaZulu-Natal; initiatives which collectively give South Africa, generally, and our Province, specifically, a marked competitive advantage in the global investment arena.”

“This period was especially characterised by the birth of the biggest infrastructural project the Provincial Government of KwaZulu-Natal has undertaken since the beginning of our new democracy and is the consequence of a bold vision for the future positioning of KwaZulu-Natal as a major business hub - a business and trade gateway to South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and the world.”

“Our vision was to establish Southern Africa's premier air logistics platform right here in KwaZulu-Natal in the certain knowledge that with international competition for the ever increasing slices of the market intensifying, we required a solution of some magnitude to compete with the best in the world.”

“Importantly, there is a growing realisation by the global business community of the economic benefits to be derived from locating their operations in close proximity to such points of connectivity - a fact we are witnessing today. The Industrial Development Zone designation that Minister Davies and the department of Trade and Industry have awarded Dube TradePort will certainly fast-track this vision. Dube Trade Port’s new IDZ status is of critical importance to our future development and the continued attraction of major investors and business operators. This will provide a crucial competitive business edge, thus further advancing trade expansion, promoting economic development and enhancing diversification efforts.”

“The creation of a business environment conducive to economic growth and development, coupled with the prestigious IDZ status, thus assists to re-enforce the potential of local businesses in identified growth sectors to rapidly increase their profile of high-value manufactured goods for export.”
