Rural schools in KwaZulu-Natal receive compujectors
The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Honourable Senzo Mchunu accompanied by KZN Department of Education MEC, Nelisiwe Peggy Nkonyeni and General Manager of the MTN SA Foundation Kusile Mtunzi-Hairwadzi, handed over Compujectors (a hybrid machine that’s part computer, part projector and part interactive whiteboard, preloaded with educational software for learners and teachers alike) to the principals of a number of rural schools in the Ilembe and uMzinyathi Districts earlier today (Tuesday, September 08, 2015).
As part of the Millennium Development Goals and targets (from the Millennium Declaration, signed by 189 countries, including 147 Heads of State and Government, in September 2 000 and from further agreement by member states at the 2005 World Summit) as well as our KZN Provincial Growth and Development Plan, a critical factor conducive to development and to the elimination of poverty is access to and an improvement in Quality Basic Education.
Education is regarded as fundamental to the aspirations of the province in relation to growth and development and as such, a strong focus is placed on Language, Information Communication Technology, Literacy, Mathematics and Science as these skillsets are a key to economic growth and development.
However this emphasis must not detract from the social and aesthetic needs of society for which education systems must also cater. The goal of our education system must be to give every child an equal opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes and to make a positive contribution in society.
This project is a demonstration that public - private partnership can be a catalyst in driving development and facilitating access to quality education in under - serviced areas. It will certainly contribute in stimulating innovation for learners who want to pursue careers in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics which is critical for modern economies.
