Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize visits the ports of KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize has spent today doing an inspection of the Province’s ports in Durban and Richards Bay.

“It was very impressive to take a boat ride around the Durban harbour and see the kind of infrastructure we have built up and how this will feature in plans for the future,” said Dr Mkhize.

He said government’s plans to expand the dugout port in Durban and the Industrial Development Zone in Richards Bay are all in line with the country’s plans for employment.

“Your ability to train people and empower them with skills becomes very crucial to these plans for development and in turn will help bolster our economy,” said Dr Mkhize.

The premier is fresh from a business delegation to India where he interacted with various key players in Indian business, who shared a willingness to strengthen trade ties with KwaZulu-Natal, and had a particular interest in the operations of the ports located in the province. The two ports are among the most vital trade routes into Africa and the rest of the world.
