Post supplementary update

The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal is leading the pack when it comes to providing access to quality education. In 2011 the province obtained 68.10% in Grade 12 results. After the supplementary examination, the province improved by 3.40% and that took the results from 68.10% to 71.5%.

Much as these results are encouraging, what is even more heartening is that the province of KwaZulu-Natal leads all other provinces when it comes to the number of learners who passed Grade 12 in 2011.

Out of 362060 learners who passed Grade 12 in the whole country, the province of KwaZulu-Natal passed 87 837 learners in 2011, followed by the Gauteng Province with 71179 learners who passed Grade 12 in the same year.

“Providing quality education to our people is our main goal, and much as the quality of education we give to our people is important to us, we also want to continue ensuring that education in the provinces is accessed by as many people as possible, which is why we are encouraged by these statistics,” said MEC Senzo Mchunu.
