Parliament on Expropriation Bill hearings progress

Public Works Committee encouraged by progress of Expropriation Bill hearings thus far

The Portfolio Committee on Public Works is encouraged by most of the oral submissions made on the Expropriation Bill thus far.

On the second day of the public hearings on the Expropriation Bill, the Committee continued its deliberations with Agri South Africa, Peter Meaken, South African Property Owners Association, Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry, South African Institute of Valuers, South African Geomatics Institute and Congress of South African Trade Unions.

The Committee found the critical but constructive inputs made by Agri South Africa, South African Institute of Valuers and the South African Geomatics Institute to be substantially useful in enhancing the current Bill. The Committee continues this process in order to ensure that the current Expropriation Bill meets constitutional muster.

The Committee will continue with public hearings on the Bill next week Tuesday, 04 August 2015 at 9:30.
