North West Department of Health herewith points out that the message circulating about resolutions concerning community health workers does not relate to this department
The North West Department of Health has noted with concern a communique circulating on social media platforms alleging that there has been a meeting between the Premier, the MEC, Administrator of the Department of Health and the HOD of Health which resolved on a number of the demands of the Community Health Workers. The Department hereby out right dismisses this communique as fake news intended to agitate Community Health Workers in the Province.
It is now public knowledge that some Community Health Workers have engaged on a strike, disrupting health services and intimidating staff in some of the health facilities across the Province. The Department has in response approached the courts to obtain an interdict against Community Health Workers engaging in acts of vandalism. In response, the communique alleges that the said meeting has resolved that, the Department will not implement a “no work no pay” against all affected Community Health Workers and that “the court interdict will be revoked”. These two issues are specifically as a result of the strike and the Department wish to state that the court interdict and the principle of “no work no pay” still stands contrary to the fake communique.
The main demand of the Community Health Workers is that they need to be appointed on full time basis. This matter affects all the other issues raised in the fake communique and the Department has been updating Community Health Workers and all affected stakeholders on the progress towards their full time appointment.
