Publication of the amended format and procedure for nomination of World Heritage Sites in the Republic of South Africa for implementation
The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Ms. Barbara Dallas Creecy, published the amended Format and Procedure for Nomination of World Heritage Sites in the Republic of South Africa, under section 6(1) and (4) of the World Heritage Convention Act, 1999 (Act No. 49 of 1999) for implementation
In summary, the amendments seek to build into the procedure other activities to be undertaken prior to submission of nominations to UNESCO, for example the Cabinet process, stakeholder engagement plan and report, guidance on development of the socio-economic benefit study, the process to be followed by the department after submission of the nomination file to UNESCO and the verification of geographical date before submission to UNESCO. The Format and Procedure document provides for formats to be used to develop various reports and plans as well as the Table, in Part 4, which indicated timeframes for various procedures of the nomination process.
