Minibus driver arrested for overloading school children on the R617

On the R617 at Underburg, the special operations unit members arrested a minibus taxi driver for overloading school children in a quantum minibus this morning, 11 March 2010. A minibus which is set to carry 14 passengers was overloaded with 33 passengers (school children).

“Restrictions on how many people you carry on the taxi are there for a reason. People are not sacks of potatoes that you overload until there is no space. Drivers are urged to put the lives of the people they carry first, because the main reasons they overload is to have more money in their pockets while putting the passengers lives at risk,” said MEC Mchunu.
