The process to repatriate babies from RK Khan Hospital to McCord Hospital in order to make way for the refurbishment of a nursery at RK Khan Hospital has been successfully concluded.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health has decided to refurbish the nursery as part of its on-going infrastructure renewal. All babies that had been admitted to RK Khan Hospital are being repatriated to McCord Hospital to ensure that service delivery is not compromised while the work continues.
All in all, fifteen (15) babies from RK Khan Hospital have been repatriated; twelve were sent to McCord’s Hospital while two went to Addington Hospital and one to St Mary’s.
All mothers who were booked to deliver babies at RK Khan Hospital will be referred by their local clinics if necessary to surrounding hospitals in the greater Durban area pending the completion of the refurbishment of the nursery at RK Khan. No deliveries of babies will be conducted at McCord Hospital.
