Media statement from KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Provincial Treasury on Provincial Speaker matter

This statement serves to appeal to all organisations involved in any manner in the matter to report and quote the responses accurately.

We would like to state categorically that the response by MEC for Finance, Ina Cronjé to the Democratic Alliance’s parliamentary questions submitted on the 17 October 2011 did not include any name of any person whatsoever as implied in some of the media reports.

MEC Cronjé, like any other Member of Executive Council, is constitutionally obliged to respond through Parliament to any parliamentary question posed to her.

It is therefore incorrect for some of the media reports to refer to the said responses as having been directed at the Speaker of the Legislature or any other person. The exact questions posed and responses given by MEC Cronjé are attached below.
