MEC Willies Mchunu welcomes arrest of suspect in connection with murder in Ekombe, KwaZulu-Natal

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has welcomed the recent arrest of another suspect in connection with last year’s murders of four people in Ekombe, Nkandla.

On 14 June 2014, Sipho Myaka and his wife Lindiwe Zulu, their herd man Philani Mbatha and their neighbour Majuqa Linda were at home in Shobalenyathi area, Ekombe, when a group of suspects stormed the house, shooting and killing them. A police task team recently made a breakthrough by arresting a 22 year old suspect, who has been charged with four counts of murder. The suspect will be appearing in the Ekombe Magistrates Court, tomorrow (Thursday, 5 March 2015) along with a co-accused, who is still in custody after he was arrested on 19 February 2015.

Today (Wednesday, 4 March 2015), MEC Mchunu welcomed the latest arrest and hailed the police for bringing the suspect to justice for the heinous murders. “I take my hat off to the police officers for this major breakthrough. I urge the police to continue with the investigation and ascertain if they were more suspects that were involved in these diabolical murders so that those responsible can be sent to jail.

“This arrest demonstrates that the police worked tirelessly and it will send a very limpid message that the long arm of the law will always catch up to suspects. We also call on whoever might have information in this matter to share it with the police immediately so that further arrests can be made and a conviction and sentenced can be secured,” said Mchunu.
