MEC Willies Mchunu expresses concerns at Carter High School saga

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has noted with concerns the victimisation of a young Carter High School girl, who reported her fellow school – mates for using drugs.

This comes after a 15 year old girl who blew the whistle on alleged drug use at Carter High School claims she is being victimised for speaking out. She claims she is victimised by her school-mates and parents that are accusing her of spreading rumours and being a troublemaker.

She has allegedly also been receiving threatening messages via Facebook and the BBM messaging application.

Today, (Monday, 1September 2014) Mchunu said these incidents were very unfortunate because the department has been calling for the communities to speak out and report such incidents.

“We want to thank the young teenager for showing such great bravery and we will definitely work together with the police and department of education to ensure that the teenager feels safe and secure.

“This is exactly what we have been preaching through our various school safety programmes and we are very delighted that they are now bearing fruits,” said Mchunu.
