The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has learnt with shock and outrage that Fuhluza Khumalo, a Community Policing Forum (CPF) member, has been shot and killed in Ohlange, Inanda. While the full details of this murder are still under investigation, preliminary information indicates that Khumalo, 58, was walking going to his Inanda home coming from a meeting at KwaMashu Hostel – when he was accosted by gunmen.
It is alleged that Khumalo was shot and killed at close range. The motive for the murder has not been established. Tonight (10 August 2015) MEC Mchunu expressed shock at this incident and condemned this murder, describing it as an unfortunate occurrence that should be condemned by all peace loving people.
He urged the law enforcement agencies to do everything possible to ensure that those responsible for this callous murder were brought to book soon. “The callous murder of Mr Khumalo is a direct attack against the forces fighting against crime and criminality.
As a CPF member, it is clear that this man had volunteered his life to ensuring that the people of his community and KZN live in a crime free environment. His murder is condemned in the strongest possibleterms. “However, I am assured that members of the police are working around the clock to ensure that those who are responsible for this cold - blooded murder are brought to justice as soon as possible,” said MEC Mchunu.
Mchunu also extended is heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Khumalo.
