MEC Willies Mchunu applauds arrest of Mandeni murder suspect

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has applauded the arrest of a triple murder suspect (27) who was detained in Eshowe prison for an armed robbery case.

It is alleged that he was involved in the killing of three Numsa members who were killed at Phola Park Bar in Sundumbili, Mandeni, on 6 August 2014, at approximately 21h00. Njabulo Dube, Sibonelo Ntuli and Ntobeko Maphumulo were shot and killed while the fourth victim was shot and wounded, and was taken to hospital for treatment.

He survived the attack. The motive for their attack is still unknown. Mchunu today, 17 November 2014 welcomed this breakthrough, saying that he hoped that this would go a long way towards sending a clear message that police would always catch up with the perpetrators of crime in KwaZulu-Natal.

“We would like to thank the police, once again, for the tremendous job well done. This indeed, sends a clear message that no matter how long it takes the law will always catch up with criminals,” said Mchunu.

This arrest comes after the Department of Community Safety and Liaison launched its safety month campaign earlier this month.

“We have recently launched our safety month campaign where we are urging people to join a million voices against crime and police killings. This is, indeed, bearing fruits as police received a tip off on the where abouts of the suspect,” said Mchunu.

He added that it was crucial that those responsible for this matter should be found and face the full might of the law as this would help to bring a closure to the relatives of the slain unionists.
