Kwazulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has strongly condemned the murders of two brothers in Umlazi’s Unit 17 Hostel, urging hostel residents to remain calm and allow the police to investigate.

On Friday, 30 January 2015, Bhekisisa Mkhize was at home when a group of armed men burst into his room. The suspects shot and killed Mkhize while Njabulo Manqele and Mde Mzizi, who were with Mkhize were shot and wounded.

Today (2 February 2014) Mchunu expressed shock at the murders and called on hostel residents who might have information about these murders to hand it over to
the police.

“I find these murders to be totally abhorrent. The police are looking into this matter. We appeal to the hostel residents to observe calm and restraint and let
the police to get into the bottom of this matter. “We also call on whoever might have information as to who is responsible for these callous and senseless attacks to share it with the police so that those responsible for these murders could be immediately brought to book, said Mchunu.
