KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Acting MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr S`bongiseni Dhlomo learned with shock yet of another three people shot at Wembezi, in Estcourt. Three women (Sikwenzile Mtshali, Buhle Sithole and Thando Sithole) have been shot by an unknown man. Two of them, including a pregnant woman are in a critical condition in hospital. A third person sustained minor injuries.
It is alleged that gunmen attacked the victims at their home. The motive of the incident is unknown yet and no arrest has been made, but police are investigating three counts of attempted murder. This incident follows Mr Joseph Mbatha’s (34) incident from Shayamoya. Mbatha was coming from work when unknown men attacked him. He died on the scene.
“As government, we are deeply concerned by the spike of violent crime in Estcourt against fellow human beings. We condemn such incidents. Estcourt is well known for political intolerance in the whole province. People have lost ubuntu. How can you kill an innocent child? It is time that all of us in the justice crime prevention and security cluster including the wider society, we deal decisively with crimes against women and children.
As much as we will intervene as the department we also urge the local leadership in all its formations to rally behind ending this scourge in Estcourt. We urge the community to be calm and partner with the police in finding the perpetrators of such senseless crime. Police will investigate and arrest those who will be caught of this deed,” says Dhlomo.
