KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu is pleading with community members from G-section in Umlazi to be calm and allow the police an opportunity to complete the investigation into the accident allegedly involving a police officer that claimed the lives of two people.
Mchunu started by sending his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured as a result of the accident. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time of grieving,” said Mchunu.
He moved on by urging the community to exercise calm and not interfere with the operations of the police station in question as threats of bringing it to a close have been made. He called for community cooperation in forwarding evidence to the police for an arrest to be made.
“No one is immune from the law; hence if the officer in question was found to have had a hand in the death of these people, and out of negligence, then he would face the full might of the law, just like any civilian in a similar position,” he concluded
