MEC Peggy Nkonyeni on 2015 School Governing Bodies elections

The MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni, MPL, urges all school communities to take part in the School Governing Bodies elections that start from the 6th of March till the 28th of March 2015.

“School Governing Bodies are very important in that they provide democratic environment for active participation of school communities in the governance of their schools. We urge parents, educators, non-educators and Representative Councils of Learners to take part in these elections,” said MEC Nkonyeni.

The South African Schools Act No 84 of 1996, Section 28 for Public Ordinary Schools and Section 24 for Public Special Schools, was promulgated to democratize the education system in the country. School Governing Bodies were created in terms of this Act to govern schools for the period of three (3) years.
