KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Arts and Culture MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha has conducted school visits in Ndwedwe, north of Durban. She was in the area in her capacity as Ilembe District Champion under Operation Sukuma Sakhe, accompanied by members of portfolio committees and provincial education district officials.
The schools visited are Sisebenzile, Manzini and Gcinokuhle High Schools. These monitoring sessions are used to check whether schools are up to date with the curriculum and also to evaluate whether concerns such as matric pass rates, classroom sizes and staff that were raised at previous meetings have been addressed. Mrs Sibhidla-Saphetha initially visited the above mentioned schools in January 2015.
'We have noted some improvement in comparison to when we were at these schools earlier this year however a lot of groundwork still needs to be done. We continue to urge parents and the communities to work with provincial government to reach the necessary milestones in improving education for all the children in KZN, especially those in rural areas' said MEC Sibhidla-Saphetha.
