MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha congratulates Golden Arrows for promotion

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha congratulates Lamontville Golden Arrows for gaining promotion to the Premier Soccer League’s ABSA Premiership after a gruelling season in the National First Division (NFD).

Arrows confirmed their qualification to the elite league after playing to a 1-1 draw with Cape Town All Stars on Sunday.

“Although the NFD season has not been concluded yet, but we are happy that Arrows have amassed enough points that have guaranteed them a place in the Premiership next season. We are proud that Abafana Besithende are back in the big league and this augurs well for the development of football in our Province,” said Sibhidla-Saphetha.

“The promotion of Arrows will open more opportunities for the Province’s youth to perform at the highest level and we look forward to continue working with our professional teams to drive development. We wish Arrows all the best in the 2015/2016 season,” she said.

The Department wishes good luck to Thanda Royal Zulu who are fighting for a place in the NFD national play-offs.

On the other hand we remain hopeful about the prospects of AmaZulu retaining their status in the Premiership, in light of the tough relegation battle with Moroka Swallows and Chippa United.

“The development of sport, football in particular will benefit immensely if we have many teams in the top division. We are holding our breath about AmaZulu’s survival and we urge KwaZulu-Natal fans to give them all the support to encourage the players to perform to the best of their abilities. We also note Maritzburg United’s successful season and we hope that they will make the top eight finish,” she said.
