Cogta MEC condemns burning of a councillors house
The KZN MEC for COGTA Nomusa Dube-Ncube today visited the traumatised family of Umdoni municipality's Ward 1 Councillor Ntokozo Maphumulo whose house was burned by assailants posing as service delivery protesters.
Dube-Ncube has condemned the cowardly criminal acts that took place in the community. During her visit to the family, the MEC called upon the community to point out those who burned the councillor's house and stole his personal belongings so that they can be brought to justice.
“It is unacceptable that such actions can take place in our communities today. Councillors are there to represent community interests and ensure that people's voices are heard and service delivery takes place. The law enforcement agencies are dealing with this case and we are certain that the community will identify these criminals,” said Dube-Ncube.
“It is hard to believe that these people were genuine protesters since their actions have obvious criminal elements. It is only criminals who steal and burn other people’s houses. These people also destroyed municipal water tanks that were sent to supply water for this community. We strongly condemn such cowardice,” said Dube-Ncube.
