Thandiwe Ncwane, 24, used to live with her 4 siblings in a substandard mud house, which could have collapsed any day. The intervention of Chancellor House and Metro fm, has started an innovative project which is aimed at building her and her family a new state of the art house, which will be energy self-sufficient. According to Phillip Mathebula from Chancellor House, the spacious 3 bedroom house will use some of the latest technology, to utilise solar energy to keep the house energy efficient.
According to the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Ms Nomusa Dube, this significant investment into the lives of the Ncwane family, by the two major corporations, is a significant milestone for the province as it celebrates alongside the whole world Nelson Mandela Month, which is a month that we dedicate our efforts to serve our communities. “The province of KwaZulu-Natal has many activities that are planned for this month to commemorate this special month,” Dube continues.
On 5 July 2013, MEC Dube, visited the construction site of the house, to check the progress being made by the contractors. "The progress of the house is on track and the family should be able to move in less than three months," said Dube.
